Hoax Played as a National Geographic “Discovery”
December 22, 2007 | National Geographic

In 2002 someone faked a photo of a giant skeleton and started a hoax that the National Geographic Society discovered a fossil of a giant human. This was an especially tall tale - the “giant” was over 60 feet tall in some versions. This would hit pretty high on the BS meter of most people. However, with some people the National Geographic name provided credibility. How can the average person verify such stories? If this “giant” would have been reported as being 12 feet tall the number of people who believed it would have been enormous!
