Peridotite Can Capture Carbon Dioxide?
November 7, 2008 | Reuters

Two scientists from Columbia University’s Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory are testing ways to use peridotite to capture the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide. They believe that carbon dioxide can be disposed of by pumping it into subsurface peridotite rock masses. One problem is that a large volume of peridotite is rarely found as a near-surface rock unit. Other scientists suggest using basalt, a much more common rock, to sequester carbon dioxide.
