Petermann Glacier Breaking Up

Satellite images show that the Petermann Glacier in northern Greenland has a very large crack and that a large piece of ice will likely break free. Although some scientists feel that this will be an unusual event, others say that this is a process that has been occurring over the lifetime of the Petermann Glacier and most other glaciers with similar characteristics.
