Teaching About Geologic Maps with Google Earth
October 20, 2008 | On The Cutting Edge

On the Cutting Edge, a professional development program for geoscience faculty, has a new area on their website devoted to teaching geologic map interpretation using Google Earth. The approach emphasizes mapping before map interpretation in order to help students visualize, rather than memorize. Google Earth is a great tool for this type of teaching because it is free, provides access to worldwide “field areas” and it allows easy 3D viewing.
