The Impact of the Shale Boom on Refineries

Oil refineries have invested heavily in the equipment and processes that convert heavy crude into transportation fuels. However, as natural gas, natural gas liquids and lighter crudes from shale are used as transportation fuels the refiners will be sitting on excess capacity.
