There has been a lot in the news lately about radioactive granite and the possible health hazard that it can present in a home. An article in the Houston Chronicle quotes a professor who is calling for routine testing of granite products intended for home use.

The Marble Institute of America had a study done on thirteen of the most popular granites used in kitchens, thought to represent 85% of all granites sold in recent years. (.pdf of the study). They conclude that the risk is minimal.
