South Dakota Rivers Map:


This map shows the major streams and rivers of South Dakota and some of the larger lakes. Most of South Dakota is within the Gulf of Mexico Watershed. Most drainage in this area leaves the state through the Missouri, James, Vermillion and Big Sioux Rivers. A very small area in the northeast corner of the state is in the Arctic Ocean Watershed. Most of these lakes and streams can be clearly seen on the South Dakota Satellite Image. We also have a page about South Dakota water resources.

South Dakota Elevation Map:


This is a generalized topographic map of South Dakota. It shows elevation trends across the state. Detailed topographic maps and aerial photos of South Dakota are available in the Geology.com store. See our state high points map to learn about Harney Peak at 7,242 feet - the highest point in South Dakota. The lowest point is Big Stone Lake at 966 feet.
