Dhaka is located in southeastern Bangladesh, in the flood-prone Ganges-Brahmaputra Delta.

Other features visible in this image include: the Botanical Gardens, Dhaka-Zia International Airport, Ershad National Square, and Ramna Park. The very fertile alluvial plains surrounding Dhaka show considerable areas of agricultural use. There are numerous rivers, streams, lakes and large areas of water in this flood-prone region; some of these are Banani Lake, Gulshan Lake, Sitalankhya River, Balu River, Buriganga River and Dhaleswari River.
