Where is India?



Kolkata Profile:


Previously known as Calcutta, Kolkata is located in northeastern India. It is located on the Ganges Delta about 154 kilometers (95 miles) north of the Bay of Bengal.

There are other cities and communities which are visible in this image. These include Barrackpur, Bally, Barasat, Dum Dum, Rajpur Sonarpur, Uluberia, Budge Budge, Uttarpara Kotrung, Haora, Jagatballabhpur, Harua, Bodra, Pratanagar, and Port Canning.

Visible Features in the Satellite Image:


Other features visible in this image include: the Calcutta Netaji Subhas Chanra Bose International Airport to the northeast of the city, canals, and areas of agriculture visible mostly to the east of the city. Due to the city's location in the Ganges River Delta, there are also considerable areas of water visible. These include the Hugli River, smaller rivers, lakes, marshes and wetlands. On the eastern edge of the city is the large Dhapa Wetlands, which is also a source of fish farms and rice paddies.
